The Philippine government, through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), has reaffirmed Japan’s continued support for the country’s infrastructure modernization efforts.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said Japan’s assistance will help accelerate the completion of key infrastructure projects that will deliver immediate and tangible benefits to the Filipino people.
In a statement Monday, Dizon expressed gratitude to the government of Japan—through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)—for backing the Philippines’ efforts to modernize its infrastructure network and enhance mobility, connectivity, and economic growth.
“President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is confident that strengthened cooperation between the Philippines and Japan will drive economic expansion and boost trade and investment,” Dizon said during the 4th Technical and Business Cooperation on Road Tunnel Construction Workshop held on Dec. 2, 2025, at Diamond Hotel Manila.
“The DPWH will ensure that the Filipino people fully benefit from this assistance and enjoy an improved quality of life,” he added.
The workshop brought together key officials from both countries, including MLIT Assistant Vice Minister for Engineering and Road Tomiyama Hidenori; Embassy of Japan Economic Minister Yokota Naobumi; JICA Philippines Senior Representative Morishima Takanori; and DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil Sadain and Undersecretary Nicasio Conti.
Discussions focused on strengthening technical cooperation and business relations between the Philippines and Japan. Experts and companies from the road and tunnel infrastructure sectors shared knowledge, exchanged best practices, and identified opportunities for future collaboration.
The partnership aims to advance technology transfer, technical coordination, and business matchmaking for Japan-funded projects, including the ongoing Davao City Bypass Construction Project and the planned Dalton Bypass East Alternative Road.
Earlier, President Marcos instructed the DPWH to expand international cooperation to further bolster the Philippines’ infrastructure development agenda.
