A Jobstreet by SEEK official sees the need for small businesses to tap qualified staff to boost their growth.

In her speech during the opening of the MSME Summit at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City on Tuesday, Dannah Majarocon, Jobstreet by SEEK managing director in the Philippines, cited the large number of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the country, or around 99.5 percent of total firms nationwide.

She said the bulk of these businesses are accounted for by micro enterprises at around 90 percent, while small and medium enterprises are at 9 percent.

The balance is made up of large corporations.

With the large number of micro businesses, it entails a huge demand for employees, which the micro businesses cannot easily meet due to lack of legitimate venues where to source capable staff.

“That’s why at Jobstreet by SEEK, we make hiring simple, faster and safer so they can focus on what matters most: Growing business and building livelihoods,” Majarocon said.

She said all information about the registered businesses and hundreds of thousands of registered applicants in their platform are verified, helping business owners check the background of the applicants.

“We built the tool, and has public and private partnerships to make this ecosystem more relevant,” she said in an interview.

Majarocon said most of the MSMEs need to be provided with training so that they can be at par with the bigger firms, especially with the use of technological advancements.

She noted the barrier wherein owners of micro firms fear the digital platforms, given lack of training compared to the big companies.

“Jobstreet by SEEK believes that every thriving economy is built on the shoulders of its resilient and growing MSMEs. By empowering them through events like the MSME Summit, we’re not only helping their businesses grow and connecting them with the right talent, but also fueling job creation and strengthening the local employment,” she said.
