The Philippines stormed the European travel market at FITUR 2026 in Madrid, with the Department of Tourism (DOT) aggressively pushing the country’s premier destinations onto the global stage.
In a Facebook post, the DOT declared that the country’s diverse tourism portfolio was front and center before international buyers, industry power players, and global media through the Philippine Pavilion.
It forcefully showcased a commanding mix of nature-driven adventures, rich cultural heritage, and dynamic urban experiences.
Among the destinations put in the spotlight were Camiguin, celebrated for its striking island landscapes; Palawan, globally recognized for its world-class beaches and dive sites; Cebu and Manila for their powerful blend of heritage and urban energy; Bohol for its immersive countryside experiences; Dumaguete for its laid-back yet magnetic appeal; Siargao, internationally known as a surfing powerhouse; and the Cordillera Administrative Region for its distinct highland culture.
The DOT made it clear that the country’s presence at the international travel fair was a strategic push to solidify its foothold in the European market and aggressively drive business opportunities for Philippine tourism stakeholders.
Tourism enterprises, local government units, and cultural groups joined the Philippine delegation in a united front, unapologetically promoting the country’s natural wonders, cultural legacy, and deeply immersive travel experiences.
FITUR stands as one of Europe’s most influential international tourism trade fairs — a high-stakes global arena where destinations compete head-on for buyers and strategic partnerships.
Back home, momentum was just as intense. More than 100,000 visitors flooded the TravelTour Expo 2026 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, snapping up promotional fares, slashed tour packages, and exclusive travel deals.
Throughout the three-day event, the DOT’s regional offices mounted high-impact booths showcasing globally acclaimed beaches, premier dive sites, formidable mountain escapes, historic landmarks, and adrenaline-fueled leisure and adventure activities across the country — boldly positioning the Philippines as a year-round powerhouse destination for both domestic and international travelers.
Participating regional offices included Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, and Caraga — each aggressively championing its own competitive edge.
DOT-attached agencies also took the offensive at the expo, including the Tourism Promotions Board, the Philippine Retirement Authority, and Duty Free Philippines.
The annual travel fair continues to serve as a battleground for industry stakeholders to aggressively market destinations, forge stronger alliances, and push more Filipinos to take action and explore the country’s tourism sites.
